Philadelphia, PA (August 30, 2022) – Around 7:40 p.m. on Tuesday evening, Philadelphia Fire Department crews and local authorities were dispatched to a reported motor vehicle accident in the greater Philadelphia region.
After the incident, officials are closing Market Street in both directions between 2nd and 3rd Streets. The accident caused one car to leave the road, and both cars were so badly damaged that they had to be towed away.
According to preliminary accounts, two of the injured needed medical care and were transported to a hospital. It has been claimed that one individual was stuck in one of the cars until rescuers used a spreader and cutting tools to free them.
At this time, it is unclear if any of the drivers involved will be cited or charged in connection with the incident since investigations are still underway.
The victims and their loved ones are in our prayers.
Major Car Crashes & Victim Injuries in Pennsylvania
According to traffic data studies, in 2014, rear-end crashes were the second most prevalent kind of accident involving two cars in Pennsylvania. Since over 20,500 wrecks occur each year in Pennsylvania, it goes without saying that all motorists in the state should exercise extreme care.
The perpetrator of the rear-end collision is often the at-fault motorist. Moreover, in Pennsylvania, the majority of rear-end crashes occur while one or both vehicles are stopped at a signal or stop sign. Sometimes, the person or people responsible will be immediately obvious. Keep in mind that sometimes it might be difficult to determine who was at blame in a rear-end incident.
People usually don’t fret too much about minor cosmetic damage following a rear-end crash. However, it’s possible that side-impact collisions are equally as deadly as head-on collisions. Even minor rear-end crashes may cause significant damage.
Damage from a rear-end collision is mostly determined by how fast the other car was traveling when it crashed into yours. Most rear-end collisions occur when a driver suddenly stops, causing the car behind them to slam into them. With the help of the momentum from the oncoming car, your car accelerates forward. When fastened, a seatbelt immediately pulls the occupant backward and prevents them from moving forward. Collisions with the seat and headrest at high speeds can have devastating effects, some of which may not become apparent until hours or days later.
However, if you were seriously hurt in a rear-end collision and it wasn’t your fault, the responsible party should cover your medical expenses and lost earnings.
Insurance companies may pay for short-term medical care in the event of an auto accident-related disability, but they may do everything in their power to avoid paying for long-term care or compensation for lost income and lost earning potential.
