Philadelphia, PA (May 2, 2022) – Around 2:31 a.m. on the morning of Sunday, May 1, a woman was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident that took place in Philadelphia.
According to local officials, the accident happened on Harbison Avenue. Police confirmed that a 42-year-old Philadelphia man was driving a gray Tesla and headed northbound in the area. For reasons that are not entirely known, he struck a woman who was walking west across the street. Police believe that he tried to brake and swerve out of her way but was too late and struck her instead.
When witnesses spoke with police, they told them that the driver was driving well over the speed limit and also driving erratically. He was taken into custody for DUI charges.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian, identified as a local 59-year-old, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Nobody else was hurt in the accident.
Due to the severity of the accident, the roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time.
No further details have been released at this time. The investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
