Philadelphia, PA (January 22, 2022) – A woman was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred in Philadelphia on Friday night, January 21.
Philadelphia Police confirmed that the accident happened at 2700 Island Avenue around 9 p.m. A woman was walking in the area when she started to cross the street. She was suddenly struck by a passenger vehicle that was traveling in the area. The vehicle involved fled the scene without stopping to check on the pedestrian.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other Philadelphia responders were immediately dispatched to the scene. The pedestrian, identified as a 46-year-old woman, was knocked out of her shoes due to the forcefulness of the accident. She sustained severe trauma to the head and was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Hospital. She was soon pronounced dead at the hospital.
Due to the severity of the accident, the roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time.
