Plymouth Meeting, PA (July 21, 2023) – A collision involving two Amazon delivery trucks and a vehicle on Wednesday morning, July 19, left at least one person hurt and delayed traffic in the Plymouth Meeting area.
Emergency personnel, along with officers from the Plymouth Meeting Police Department, were dispatched to the Blue Route near Exit 18. One of the Amazon trucks crashed in the median with the car wedged beneath it, while the other truck jackknifed and landed on the shoulder of the roadway.
The cause of the collision is unknown, and Pennsylvania State Police and Plymouth Meeting officials are still conducting their investigation. Although it’s unclear how many drivers were ultimately taken to a nearby hospital, EMTs were also on the scene to assess the victims’ injuries and provide emergency medical care.
The investigation into the wreck remains active in the meantime.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims in hopes of their full recovery.
Commercial Truck Accidents in Pennsylvania
Recent years have shown disturbing trends in the number of accidents involving large trucks on Pennsylvania’s roadways throughout the state. In fact, more people were killed or seriously injured in truck accidents in 2021 than in any year before. The research also shows that each truck accident is different because of the wide variety of possible causes contributing to these incidents.
Unfortunately, there is a worrying upward trend in the number of truck accidents in Pennsylvania from 2017 to 2021. Pennsylvania saw the highest year total of truck accidents since 2018 in 2021.
And though there were fewer truck accidents in 2021 than in 2018, there were more fatalities overall. Compared to 2018, when 118 people lost their lives in truck accidents in Pennsylvania, 2019 saw 144 accidents involving trucks. What’s more, 2021 was the second worst year in the previous five years, with 144 fatal accidents, only one less than 2017’s record.
