Princeton, NJ (February 16, 2022) – One person was killed in a motorized bicycle accident that took place on a roadway in Princeton on Tuesday night, February 15.
West Windsor Police confirmed that the accident happened around 10:15 p.m. in the southbound lanes of US-1 around the area of the Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant. A 40-year-old driver from Trenton was riding on a motorized bike on the roadway when she was suddenly struck by the driver of a Ford. The female was thrown off of her bike and onto the ground. The driver of the Ford pulled over and exited his vehicle to help but, before he could reach her, multiple vehicles struck the victim.
Princeton paramedics and fire crews were immediately dispatched to the scene to help. The driver of the motorized bike was pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. None of the drivers involved in the accident were hurt.
Due to the severity of the accident, the roadway was blocked in all southbound lanes for approximately four hours. Police quickly worked to clear the scene.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
Bicycle Accidents in New Jersey
Bicycle accidents may not happen as commonly as other accidents on our roads. However, when they do, they tend to lead to some of the most extensive harm. Between 2001 and 2011, there were approximately 19,551 bicycle accidents in the Northern New Jersey counties and even more throughout the rest of the state. Hundreds of lives are taken every single year due to these horrific and unexpected accidents. Bicyclists have next to no protection from harm when involved in an accident with a passenger vehicle. If you have lost a loved one due to a bicycle accident, you and your family should be prepared to speak with an attorney that you can rely on.
Using a bicycle as transportation has become a commonplace activity, especially in major cities. Though this is a great way to exercise and save on gas, it can also be dangerous when drivers are not paying close attention to the roads around them. Losing a loved one in an accident can put you in a difficult position that you may not be prepared to face entirely on your own. If you have sustained these losses, you should never have to worry about how you will keep up with the bills that continue to pile up. It is important that you speak with a skilled Princeton bicycle accident attorney who has your best interests in mind.
