Salem, PA (August 19, 2022) – According to Pennsylvania State Police and the Allegheny County Medical Examiner, a man from Pitcairn passed away on Thursday, a day after his vehicle was hit from behind in Salem at the intersection of Route 66 and Route 22, where he was traveling.
On Wednesday morning at approximately 6:30 a.m., the 56-year-old man was sitting at a stop signal on Route 66 northbound when the Mazda 3 he was driving was struck from behind. According to the troopers, a 27-year-old man from Homer City was driving a BMW and did not come to a complete stop for the halted traffic, crashing into the Mazda.
After being extricated from the vehicle by firefighters, the Mazda’s driver was then transported to AHN Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, per police. He later died on Thursday morning at approximately 10:30 a.m.
The BMW driver received treatment for minor injuries at an area medical center. It’s unclear if any citations or charges will be filed in connection with the wreck, although an investigation remains active at this time.
