Salem, PA (August 19, 2022) – According to Pennsylvania State Police and the Allegheny County Medical Examiner, a man from Pitcairn passed away on Thursday, a day after his vehicle was hit from behind in Salem at the intersection of Route 66 and Route 22, where he was traveling.
On Wednesday morning at approximately 6:30 a.m., the 56-year-old man was sitting at a stop signal on Route 66 northbound when the Mazda 3 he was driving was struck from behind. According to the troopers, a 27-year-old man from Homer City was driving a BMW and did not come to a complete stop for the halted traffic, crashing into the Mazda.
After being extricated from the vehicle by firefighters, the Mazda’s driver was then transported to AHN Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, per police. He later died on Thursday morning at approximately 10:30 a.m.
The BMW driver received treatment for minor injuries at an area medical center. It’s unclear if any citations or charges will be filed in connection with the wreck, although an investigation remains active at this time.
We would like to extend our most sincere sympathies to the deceased man’s family members.
Deadly Rear-End Accidents in Pennsylvania
More than 21% of all automobile accidents in the state of Pennsylvania are caused by rear-end accidents, in which vehicles collide with one another from behind. Even though most rear-end incidents, also known as fender benders, may appear to be inconsequential when they initially take place and are unquestionably less severe than head-on collisions, painful and incapacitating injuries may nevertheless emerge several days after the impact.
Depending on the severity of the impact, certain rear-end collisions can result in catastrophic injuries or even fatalities, especially when the accident involves a tractor-trailer.
Accidents of this type can be brought about by a variety of circumstances, including drivers who are preoccupied with other activities, such as talking on the phone, texting, adjusting the settings on their car’s GPS system, or searching for items within their vehicle. However, drivers going at excessive speeds, failing to check before backing out of parking spaces or driveways, following the car in front of them too closely, suddenly stopping for red-light cameras, and driving in inclement weather are the most common causes of rear-end accidents.
If you were not at fault for an accident involving a rear-end collision and you incurred major injuries as a result of the collision, you should not be required to pay for the damages that were caused, such as a mountain of medical bills or time lost from work.
In many situations, insurance companies will pay for a few important medical procedures; nevertheless, they will go to great lengths to avoid covering disabilities, long-term care, or lost income. While they may pay for essential medical treatments, they may not cover all of them.
