Stafford, NJ (May 5, 2022) – A man was killed in a fatal bicycle accident that took place on a major roadway in Stafford on Monday night, May 2.
Stafford Police responded to the scene and found that the collision happened in the westbound lanes of NJ-72 at the exit to the Garden State Parkway around 9:40 p.m. They discovered that a 55-year-old man from Ocean Township was traveling on the roadway when he veered into the right lane of traffic to get onto the highway. He suddenly came into contact with a bicyclist in doing so.
Paramedics and fire crews were immediately rushed to the scene to help the cyclist. The bicyclist, identified as a 61-year-old man from Little Egg Harbor, was severely injured and taken to Southern Ocean Medical Center. However, while there, he tragically passed away.
Police claim that the accident happened in an area that was not very well lit. The roadway was blocked in several lanes following the accident.
Stafford Police are still investigating the circumstances that led up to the accident.
