Toms River, NJ (February 28, 2022) – On Monday morning, February 28, two firefighters were hurt in a fire that took place in Toms River.
According to police, the accident happened at 6:45 a.m. on Monroe Avenue. Fire crews were initially called to the scene where they found that a home was on fire. The home quickly became fully engulfed in smoke and flames. Fire crews quickly found out that the family was not home when the fire began but the family pets were home. Due to the stretch of the fire, a neighboring home caught on fire and was also damaged.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The family pets were tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Two firefighters sustained injuries in the fire and were hospitalized. They are expected to recover from their injuries.
The area was blocked for an extended period of time as police worked to clear the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
