Washington, NJ (March 3, 2022) – A man was killed in a fatal pedestrian crash that took place on a highway in Washington on Tuesday night, March 1.
According to Washington Township Police, the accident happened around 9:07 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the Black Horse Pike near Watson Drive. An adult male pedestrian was walking across the street in the area when he was struck by a Mercury Cougar operated by a 59-year-old woman from Bellmawr.
Several responders, including Washington Township paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian sustained a severe head injury and was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle that struck him sustained a lower leg injury and was rushed to Jefferson Hospital by medical helicopter. She has not yet received any charges related to the accident.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for several hours as police worked to clear the scene.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
