Wellsboro, PA (October 20, 2025) – A fatal collision occurred in Delmar Township on Friday, October 17, at the intersection of State Route 287 and Calkins Road, according to the Pennsylvania State Police. Reports indicate that the crash took place around 5:40 p.m. and involved a Toyota Tacoma and a BMW motorcycle.
Preliminary findings reveal that the Toyota Tacoma was attempting to make a left turn onto SR 287 when the motorcycle collided with the vehicle. The impact caused severe injuries to the motorcyclist, who was identified by authorities as a 70-year-old man. Emergency crews from the Wellsboro Fire Company, Wellsboro Ambulance, and Susquehanna Regional EMS responded to the scene, but despite their efforts, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tioga County Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the Toyota Tacoma, identified as a 74-year-old resident of Wellsboro, did not sustain any injuries. A witness reported that moments before the collision, two motorcycles were observed traveling northbound on SR 287 at a high rate of speed in a no-passing zone.
The Pennsylvania State Police, with assistance from PennDOT and local emergency responders, are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine contributing factors and whether speed or roadway conditions played a role in the crash.
Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased individual during this challenging time.
Motorcycle Collisions in Pennsylvania
Motorcycle accidents often result in devastating outcomes due to the limited protection available to riders compared to occupants of passenger vehicles. When a collision occurs, motorcyclists are at a higher risk of suffering fatal or life-threatening injuries, particularly in incidents involving larger vehicles or high speeds.
In Pennsylvania, intersections like SR 287 and Calkins Road can be especially hazardous for motorcyclists. Visibility challenges, misjudged turns, and excessive speed are among the leading factors contributing to fatal crashes across the state. While investigations are ongoing, accidents of this nature highlight the importance of cautious driving and heightened awareness among all motorists.
For families affected by fatal motorcycle accidents, the aftermath can be overwhelming. In addition to emotional loss, there are often financial challenges related to medical costs, funeral expenses, and loss of income. Seeking legal guidance can help families understand their rights and explore potential compensation claims.
