Bernville, PA (January 3, 2025) – Pennsylvania State Police Troop L investigated a fatal crash early Friday morning that took place along the 5900 block of State Route 183.
According to Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Ethan Brownback, troopers responded to the site of the incident after 5:00 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered that a pickup truck and a car collided head-on in Penn Township, about three miles south of Bernville. The operators of both vehicles had to be transported to Reading Hospital via EMS for their injuries.
A 27-year-old woman from Reading was driving the car. Police say her two-year-old daughter died at the hospital. Police say the truck caught fire after the crash, with its 55-year-old driver trapped inside, though he was later rescued. Officers further confirmed that the pickup’s driver, a man from Auburn, is being investigated for suspicion of DUI following this awful incident. No further details were released, however, and an investigation remains active and ongoing.
We offer our sincere condolences to the family members of the deceased child. Our thoughts are with the injured victims in hopes of their full recovery.
Fatal Auto Accidents in Pennsylvania
According to data collected from Pennsylvania roadways over the last year, rear-end crashes are the second most prevalent car accident. Thousands of these crashes involving several vehicles are reported in Pennsylvania each year, so drivers must exercise extra caution.
Unsafe driving is a common contributor to accidents. In the state of Pennsylvania, the most common reason for rear-end collisions, for instance, is when drivers text or drive or engage in distracted driving. But despite the often-negligent causes of these accidents, there are occasions when it is less than easy to determine who is at fault in a rear-end collision.
If you were injured in a rear-end collision, the negligent driver who caused the wreck should cover your medical expenses and lost income. Unfortunately, when a policyholder is seriously hurt or even rendered permanently disabled due to a vehicle accident, the insurance company may attempt to avoid paying for the policyholder’s long-term care or lost income and future earning potential despite their lack of fault in contributing to a wreck.
