Lakewood, NJ (April 4, 2022) – Around 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, a man was killed in a fatal car crash that took place in Lakewood.
According to Lakewood Police, the accident happened on Madison Avenue around the area of 9th Street. Police confirmed that a 34-year-old man was traveling north in a Honda Accord and attempted to make a left turn at the intersection. This is when a Ford F-150, driven by a 38-year-old man, crossed into the other lane of traffic and side-swiped the Honda and then a Ford Explorer. The driver of the Explorer fled the scene before police arrived.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. Several people were involved in the accident including a 29-year-old man, a 54-year-old man, a 33-year-old man, and a 36-year-old man. The 36-year-old man was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries. Several parties were taken to local hospitals for treatment of unknown injuries.
The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time. Police quickly worked to clear the scene.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident remains ongoing.
