Lower Nazareth Township, PA (February 23, 2026) – A deadly crash closed part of Nazareth Pike in Lower Nazareth Township on Sunday, February 22, as snow from a winter storm began falling across the Lehigh Valley. The collision occurred just after 5 p.m. at the intersection of Nazareth Pike (Route 191) and Gradwohl Switch Road.
According to dispatch reports, the crash involved a pickup truck and a sedan. Emergency alerts indicated that one person was heavily trapped inside a vehicle and experiencing agonal breathing, while another person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fire crews worked to free the trapped victim and were able to remove the person from the vehicle around 5:23 p.m. One individual was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.
Officials stated that Nazareth Pike was closed between Daniels Road and Jandy Boulevard for an extended time following the collision. It remains unclear whether the snow and winter weather conditions contributed to the crash.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim. We also wish those hurt a rapid recovery.
How Winter Storm Driving Increases Crash Risks in Pennsylvania
Winter storms can quickly change road conditions, especially at intersections where vehicles must slow, turn, or stop. Snow accumulation can reduce traction and make braking distances longer than expected. When visibility and road grip decline at the same time, the risk of a serious collision increases.
Crashes during winter weather often result in significant injuries due to sliding impacts and loss of control. Victims may suffer head injuries, chest trauma, broken bones, or internal injuries. In severe cases involving entrapment, emergency responders must work carefully to remove occupants before medical transport.
After a fatal winter accident, families may have questions about insurance claims, vehicle damage, and available options. Weather conditions sometimes become part of the overall review of what occurred. Keeping medical records and official reports organized can help clarify your next steps.
A wrongful death lawyer can examine the details of a weather-related crash and explain what legal avenues may be available. Legal guidance can help clarify insurance responsibilities and whether certain forms of compensation might apply depending on the findings.
