Luzerne County, PA (March 11, 2024) – Traffic was backed up along the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Luzerne County after a commercial vehicle crash on Sunday.
Around 2:00 p.m., traffic started flowing again on Interstate 476, though the left lane of I-476 northbound was closed starting at mile marker 109.9 due to the incident. Per the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), two crashes on I-476 southbound held up traffic between Exit 105 to Wilkes-Barre and Exit 115 to Wyoming Valley just before 12:00 p.m.
State police say the first crash was at mile marker 109.9 going south, involving a tractor-trailer losing control and passing another vehicle while going around a curve before hitting it. EMTs transferred at least one person to a local hospital, though no further details were released. An investigation remains active in the interim.
