Bristol Township, PA (July 3, 2026) – A man suffered minor burns and cuts on Friday morning, July 3, after an e-bike battery exploded and sparked a fire inside a home on Aspen Lane.
The homeowner told officials the e-bike had been brought inside overnight and left charging when the battery exploded around 10 a.m. The blast ignited nearby furniture, including a couch, chair, and ottoman, and left the home with heat and smoke damage.
Everyone inside was able to escape safely, with some residents climbing out through a second-floor window. One man was hurt while dragging the burning bike outside to remove it from the home.
The e-bike’s battery had reportedly been replaced just days before the fire. Investigators have not said what caused the new battery to fail. The investigation remains active.
We’re glad everyone made it out safely and wish the injured man a smooth recovery.
Can a Defective E-Bike Battery Lead to a Product Liability Claim in Bristol Township, PA?
Yes, a person hurt by an exploding lithium-ion battery may have a product liability claim against the manufacturer, distributor, or seller of the battery.
People hurt in battery-related house fires often deal with burns, smoke inhalation, or cuts sustained while trying to escape or remove the hazard. These injuries can require ongoing wound care or specialized treatment, even when they’re initially described as minor.
Pennsylvania law allows injured people to pursue a strict liability claim if a defective battery is shown to be unreasonably dangerous, without needing to prove the manufacturer was negligent. A personal injury lawyer can help preserve the damaged battery and bike as evidence, since manufacturers usually have a limited window before it’s discarded or lost.
