Mansfield Township, NJ (February 6, 2022) – Early Sunday morning, February 6, a passenger was killed in a fatal accident in Mansfield Township.
According to officials, the accident happened around 2 a.m. at 600 New Jersey 57. Police confirmed that a 27-year-old male was driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck in the area when he started to try and pass several vehicles at a high rate of speed. He lost control, causing his truck to go airborne. The vehicle crashed into the second floor of a home in the area. Police confirmed that the truck landed in a bedroom of the home. The driver was ejected from the truck and was found on the first floor of the home.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were dispatched to the scene. The driver of the vehicle received minor injuries and was hospitalized. However, his 24-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman in her bed was critically injured and rushed to Morristown Hospital by medical helicopter.
The driver of the pickup truck is currently facing charges. These include aggravated manslaughter, death by auto, and DUI.
The roadway was closed down completely for several hours as police worked to clear the scene.
