North East Township, PA (July 18, 2023) – Authorities in North East say that an accident left one woman dead and three others in serious condition on Sunday morning, July 16.
At around 10:00 a.m., reports of an accident near the intersection of Gay Road and East Lake Road in North East Township were fielded by local officers and state troopers.
The Pennsylvania State Police said a pickup truck heading west on Lake Road collided with an SUV that had stopped before advancing through the intersection.
The pickup truck’s front bumper collided with the driver’s side of the SUV, sending it rolling until it came to rest in the grass.
A 79-year-old woman, a nun, was killed. The SUV’s driver, a 75-year-old woman, was seriously injured and was airlifted to a nearby hospital.
Two other adults from the SUV and two children from the pickup truck were sent to the hospital to evaluate their injuries. The Erie County Medical Examiner has not identified the victims, though the PSP is continuing its probe into the accident at this time.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the deceased victim’s family. The injured victims and their families are in our thoughts, and we hope for their full recovery.
