Ocean City, NJ (May 2, 2022) – Around 10:30 a.m. on Monday morning, May 2, a man was killed in a workplace accident involving a Ferris wheel on the boardwalk in Ocean City.
According to Jersey Shore Police, the accident happened on the Ferris Wheel at Gillian’s Wonderland Pier on the boardwalk of Ocean City. A subcontractor was working on the Ferris wheel and was on a lift at the time. However, the subcontractor fell from the lift at some point due to reasons that are not yet known.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The worker, who has since been identified as 62-year-old welder Robert Sanger from Cargo Tech International, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Nobody else was injured in the accident.
The area was blocked for an extended period of time following the accident.
No further details have been released but the investigation into the accident continues. Police will update with more information as it becomes available.
