Philadelphia, PA (May 1, 2022) – Two officers were injured in a car accident that took place at an intersection in Philadelphia on Saturday evening, April 30.
According to Philadelphia Police, the accident happened at 6:13 p.m. at 2500 West Sedgley Avenue. An officer allegedly pulled over a maroon Honda Accord and both the Accord and marked police car were on the side of the street. A gold Mercedes was traveling at a high rate of speed in the area and fleeing the scene of a crash. The vehicle rear-ended the police car, causing it to strike the Honda near the intersection. The vehicles involved in the accident were extensively damaged.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. Both officers in the marked patrol cruiser sustained head injuries. The driver of the Honda also sustained head pain and her two child passengers were taken to local hospitals as well. All of the parties are expected to be okay.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the intersection for an extended period of time. Police confirmed that charges are pending against the driver of the Mercedes at this time.
