Philadelphia, PA (December 27, 2022) – Philadelphia police are searching for the driver of a car involved in a series of hit-and-run accidents on Monday evening, including one that killed a 22-year-old man near Broad Street and Lehigh Avenue.
The first collision occurred at around 8:00 p.m. in the parking lot of Rivers Casino along Delaware Avenue when a speeding driver in a blue Ford Mustang hit a person on an electric scooter, according to authorities. The scooter rider was knocked to the ground and suffered a fractured leg. The Mustang then circled the valet parking area and collided with three other vehicles, causing a 48-year-old woman to sustain minor injuries.
After these first crashes, the Mustang raced south on Delaware Avenue and went onto Broad Street, where it hit a cyclist at the Spring Garden Street junction. The 53-year-old biker was also brought to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Finally, at 8:15 p.m., the Mustang driver went northbound on Broad Street and Lehigh Avenue, striking a 22-year-old man at the crossing, according to police. The person was transported to Temple University Hospital, where he was declared dead.
Police said that the driver of the Mustang abandoned the car at the junction of Broad Street and Indiana Avenue and fled on foot. The windshield of the vehicle was broken when investigators arrived.
