Trenton, NJ (March 20, 2022) – Around 12:45 a.m. on Saturday morning, March 19, a man was killed in a fatal truck accident in Trenton.
According to New Jersey State Police, the accident happened on NJ-29 around the area of mile marker 0.6. Police confirmed that a Freightliner truck was traveling in the area when it struck the back of a Chevrolet pickup truck. The Chevrolet immediately caught on fire and became fully engulfed. The vehicles both sustained severe damages as a result.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the Chevrolet, who has not yet been identified, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries. The 50-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer was not hurt and cooperated with police.
Due to the severity of the collision, two right lanes of traffic were blocked in the area for 7 hours. Police worked to clear the scene as delays lingered.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing. Police will update with more information as it becomes available.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
