Philadelphia, PA (October 9, 2026) – A multi-vehicle collision in West Philadelphia on Wednesday afternoon, October 7, left one man dead and two others hurt, including a pedestrian.
Police were called to the 5100 block of Westminster Avenue at about 1:29 p.m. Preliminary information indicates a Chevrolet Traverse heading west hit the back of a Nissan Sentra stopped at a red light.
The Chevrolet then hit a Lexus heading east before leaving the road. It struck a pedestrian and came to rest against a building.
The Chevrolet’s 51-year-old male driver was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at about 2:12 p.m.
The Nissan’s driver was evaluated and released. The Lexus driver was taken to Lankenau Medical Center in stable condition.
The pedestrian was taken to Einstein Medical Center for a leg injury.
The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating the cause.
Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died and with the two people hurt, and we wish them a full recovery.
Who Can Be Held Liable for an Injury in Pennsylvania Under the Fair Share Act in Philadelphia, PA?
Pennsylvania’s Fair Share Act changed how liability is divided when more than one person may have caused an injury. Each defendant is generally responsible only for their own percentage of fault.
A defendant found 60 percent or more at fault can still be held responsible for the whole award, along with a few other exceptions.
That makes it important to identify everyone who may share fault, since a person who cannot collect from one defendant may not be able to make up the difference from another.
Besides drivers, those parties can include an employer, a vehicle owner, a maintenance company, or a government body responsible for a road.
A car accident lawyer in Philadelphia can investigate each one and examine the insurance behind them.
If more than one party may have contributed to your injuries, our team at Rand Spear The Accident Lawyer can help you find them all. We can review your case and explain how the process may develop for you under Pennsylvania law.
