What Legal Options Are Available After a Head-On Crash in Richland Township, PA?
After a head-on crash in Pennsylvania, an injured person may be able to seek compensation when another driver’s negligence contributed to the crash. Available options depend on the evidence, insurance coverage, and the injured person’s policy choices.
Pennsylvania uses a choice no-fault auto insurance system. Depending on the policy, medical expenses may initially be covered through the injured person’s own first-party benefits.
Whether someone can pursue additional damages against an at-fault driver may depend on whether their policy provides limited-tort or full-tort coverage. Limited-tort coverage generally restricts recovery for pain and suffering unless an exception applies, including certain serious injuries. Full-tort coverage generally permits a broader claim for these damages.
In a head-on collision, evidence may be especially important in determining how the vehicles came into contact and whether either driver was negligent.
The police crash report, witness statements, photographs, vehicle damage, and any available roadway or surveillance footage may help establish what happened. Injured people should also keep medical records, bills, receipts, and employment documents showing missed work or reduced earning capacity.
Pennsylvania generally has a two-year statute of limitations for personal injury lawsuits, though exceptions can apply. Claims involving government entities may have additional notice requirements and shorter deadlines. Because serious injuries can require extended treatment, keeping records of both current expenses and anticipated future needs may help when evaluating a potential claim.
