Westville, NJ (January 27, 2022) – A police officer was injured in a serious DUI accident that took place in Westville around 10 p.m. on Wednesday night, January 26.
According to police, the accident happened at 10 p.m. on NJ-47. A 48-year-old woman was traveling south in the area in her Hyundai when her vehicle left the roadway and struck a patrol cruiser on the side of the road. The cruiser had its emergency lights on and was giving assistance to a motorist. The vehicles involved in the accident were extensively damaged.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The officer was injured in the accident and taken to the hospital. He is expected to recover from his injuries.
The driver of the vehicle that left the lane of travel was arrested for driving under the influence for her role in the accident.
Due to the severity of the accident, a portion of the roadway was blocked for some time. Police quickly worked to clear the scene.
